2large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
2tbsplemon juice
1tspground cinnamon
3/4cupsugar, divided
1/2cupunsalted butter, softened
2eggs
1tspvanilla extract
1cupall-purpose flour
1tspbaking powder

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
Peel, core, and slice apples. Toss with lemon juice, 1/4 cup sugar, and cinnamon.
In a bowl, cream butter and remaining sugar. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
Mix in flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined.
Pour batter into the pan. Arrange apple slices on top in a spiral pattern.
Bake for 35–40 minutes or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool slightly. Serve warm with vanilla sauce or whipped cream.
Notes
You can substitute the apples with pears for variation. Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for 2 months.
