Equipment

  • mixing bowls
  • 9-inch round cake pan
  • electric mixer or whisk
  • spatula
  • measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round pan.
  • Cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  • Beat in egg, yolk, and vanilla until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt.
  • Combine dry and wet ingredients. Stir in chocolate chips.
  • Spread dough evenly into the pan.
  • Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden edges form and center looks soft.
  • Cool completely before decorating or serving.

Notes

Use a metal pan for even baking. Avoid overbaking—the center should look slightly underdone for a soft texture. Top with frosting or ganache for special occasions.
